Trash a** refs! Jets DE Jermaine Johnson getting held with Chiefs not getting any penalty

July 2024 · 3 minute read

On Sunday night, Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs managed to secure a victory against the New York Jets in a close game during their week 4 matchup. Mahomes had one of the worst games of his career so far as he threw for multiple interceptions in the game. Besides, the Jets fans were also furious about Jermaine Johnson not getting a holding call during a crucial third down.

During the final minutes of the fourth quarter, the Chiefs were leading by 3 points and were facing a crucial 3rd and 22 around their own 40-yard line. Mahomes who received the ball was scanning the field to find an open receiver but couldn’t. Meanwhile, the Chiefs left tackle Donovan Smith blatantly held the Jets’ defensive end Jermaine Johnson for a long time while Patrick Mahomes was scanning the field.

Since Johnson couldn’t get ahold of Mahomes, the Chiefs quarterback took off with the ball and managed to gain the 22 yards with his legs. The Chiefs received a fresh set of downs after Mahomes was able to get that 3rd and 22. As a result, the Jets never got the ball back, and the Chiefs were able to hold on to their 3-point lead to register a victory.

The Chiefs’ left tackle Donovan Smith held Johnson for almost 4 seconds right in front of a referee but he didn’t get a penalty. Shortly after that bad call, a penalty on the Jets erased a Mahomes interception at a crucial point in the game. Both of those calls led to fans calling the league rigged in favor of the 2-time NFL MVP Mahomes and the Chiefs.

NFL fans on social media went berserk after the referees failed to call a holding penalty on the Chiefs offensive tackle Donovan Smith during a crucial time of the game. The no-holding call led to Patrick Mahomes scrambling for 20+ yards and getting a fresh set of downs for his team. Furthermore, the Jets never got the ball back and suffered a loss as a result of the no-call. Check out some of the reactions attached below.

That was egregious. The refs want KC to win this game.

Horrific refs. Just took an interception away on a blown call.

Nonetheless, the Chiefs improved to 3-1 after managing to steal a victory from the Jets during the final few minutes of the game. They would now look to continue their dominance and register another victory against the struggling Minnesota Vikings (0-4), who they are scheduled to face this Sunday in their week 5 matchup.
